To apply for Rotary Youth Exchange, complete the following steps:
Step 1: Contact Your Local Rotary Club
Contact your local Rotary club or visit their website and find out about the youth exchange program.
- List of all District 5180 Rotary Clubs: https://www.rotary5180.org/ClubDirectory
- View a map of Sacramento-area high schools and find the nearest Rotary Club
- If you are having trouble identifying a club that will sponsor you for the youth exchange program, please contact us at outbound@rye5180.org
Step 2: Fill out Your Online Application
Step 3: Submit Required Supplemental Documents
After you submit your online application you will receive an email with instructions on completing supplemental application forms which include the following:
- Dental and medical history, including immunizations
- Official high school transcript(s)
- School reference (requested via URL link)
- Local Rotary Club Sponsorship Form
- Signed Rules and Conditions of Exchange
- Host family referral form
(students must identify a minimum of two-three host families in order to participate in the program. The total number and specific requirements vary by sponsoring Rotary club. We strongly recommend students and their families discuss this with the sponsor club prior to submitting the online application.)

- October 15, 2024
- Deadline for outbound-student applications for students wanting to study abroad during the 2025-26 academic year
- November 15-17, 2024
- 2025-26 outbound-student district interviews (mandatory for student applicants and their parents/guardians)
- November 15 – District interview group workshop
- November 16-17 – Individual interviews
- January 12, 2025
- 2025-26 outbound-student orientation #1 (mandatory for students and parents/guardians)
- March 23, 2025
- 2025-26 outbound-student orientation #2 (mandatory for students only)
- June 14, 2025
- 2025-26 outbound-student orientation #3 (mandatory for students and parents/guardians)
- Late July through early September 2025
- 2025-26 Outbound students begin departing, through Sept. 14 (dates are tentative based on previous years)
- July 25, 2026
- 2025-26 rebound orientation (mandatory for students, recommended for parents/guardians)
